Handbook of Equine Radiography
Authors: Martin Weaver. Safia Barakzai.
Hardcover, 200 pages
Publisher: Saunders Ltd.
Publication Date: 2009-02-03
Edition: 1

Reviews :

The Handbook of Equine Radiography is a practical and accessible "how-to" guide to obtaining high-quality radiographs of the horse. It covers all aspects of taking radiographs of the commonly examined regions (lower limbs and skull) as well as less frequently examined areas (upper limbs, trunk).

The main part of the book consists of diagrams to illustrate the positioning of the horse and the radiography equipment. For each view a benchmark example of a normal radiograph is illustrated. The accompanying text for each radiographic view succinctly presents the most relevant aspects.

Practically orientated, and including chapters covering such key areas as radiation safety in equine radiography and patient preparation, plus a trouble-shooting section, the Handbook of Equine Radiography is an indispensable guide to practitioners in all countries engaged in equine work.

  • Clear diagrams illustrate the positioning of the horse and the radiography equipment

  • Contains all the information required to radiograph a horse

  • Accessible to veterinary surgeons who obtain most of their radiographs in the field

  • Includes appendix of equipment suppliers

This is an invaluable reference dedicated to the equine back, providing comprehensive coverage by international specialists. "Equine Back Pathology: Diagnosis and Treatment" is the first book to explore conditions and problems of the horses back and pelvis, which are often difficult to diagnose and treat. The importance of the horse's back to their function and athletic ability cannot be underestimated. There has been considerable progress in recent years in understanding back problems in the horse, and this book brings together the most recent research. The book is divided into sections covering: the normal anatomy and kinematics of the horse's back; the approach to investigating suspected back pathology; diagnosis and treatment of specific conditions; back pathology in specific sporting disciplines; and, complementary therapy and rehabilitation. Atlas of Equine Endoscopy
Authors: Nathan M. Slovis.
Hardcover, 272 pages
Publisher: Mosby
Publication Date: 2003-11-05
Edition: 1

Reviews :

Atlas of Equine Endoscopy is a practical reference guide to minimally invasive equine endoscopy of various organ systems. Because endoscopy is now widely used by equine practitioners, this atlas focuses less on basic principles and more on its use as a diagnostic tool. Coverage includes both normal and abnormal findings, with more than 575 high-definition images, captured by digital camera. Each procedure is discussed consistently, addressing relevant normal anatomy followed by categories of disorders such as neoplasia, inflammation, and abscesses.

  • State-of-the-art full-color digital images.
  • Illustrated reference of both the normal and abnormal examination findings in each organ system.
  • Distant and close-up views of the anatomy are provided where applicable; this helps identify normal anatomy and anatomical variations.
  • The order of the photographs in each body system reflects the order in which the endoscopic examination is performed.
  • Several different images of the same disorder are provided so the reader can appreciate the different presentations of identical disorders.
  • Contributors are board-certified experts from all equine veterinary specialties.
  • Covers endoscopic equipment, providing valuable comparative information on instruments and video equipment.

Equine Reproduction
Authors: Angus O. McKinnon. James L. Voss.
Hardcover, 1137 pages
Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell
Publication Date: 1993-01-15
Edition: 1

Reviews :

This text is divided into three main sections: the mare, the stallion, and the neonate. Each is equally important to veterinarians involved in equine reproductive practice. Too often, interest in the mare wanes once her pregnancy is diagnosed. Monitoring of pregnancy and neonatal care are areas of prime importance, because presumably the aim of any breeding program is to produce viable offspring. In addition, education regarding stallion reproductive physiology and management is alarmingly sparse, and the stallion is often neglected despite being half the fertility equation. The discussions of the mare and stallion are divided into the following topics: anatomy, physiology, and endocrinology; breeding management; diseases of the reproductive tract; and reproductive surgery. Additional topics in the section on the mare are pregnancy, parturition, and the puerperal period. Discussion of the neonate is divided into neonatal care and diseases according to body systems. Ninety-five authors and co-authors have contributed to this work. The number of North American authors reflects their affiliations; however, readers should note chapters by numerous internationally recognized educators from both Northern and Southern Hemispheres....
